Beauty Favorites: Dry Shampoo

We all know those especially busy days when our workouts and work schedules just don’t match up. I often find myself rushing from the gym to a meeting or trying to squeeze in a mid-day yoga class to destress.

It’s my goal to maximize my workout time and using dry shampoo keeps my post-workout routine quick and easy. If I can’t wash my hair after a sweaty workout, I spray on some dry shampoo and in an instant, I’m ready to move on with my day. Dry shampoos soak up excess oil and leave your hair smelling fresh and clean without getting your hair wet during a quick shower. Workout? Check. Hair? Check.

I think dry shampoos are a huge help with long hair in between washings, too.Dry shampoo is especially helpful during the drier, cooler months because it keeps my hair fresh and protected. Now that it’s winter my strands feel a bit drier, so I try to wash my hair every couple of days to avoid stripping it of the hair’s natural healthy oils. My favorite is Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk from France. It’s lightly scented, doesn’t leave your hair stiff, easy to comb through, and comes in aerosol (and non-aerosol for traveling).

When I’m home, I usually pick it up from a boutique called Heaven & Earth in Saint Helena, but you can order it online, too, through Amazon. If it’s not available, I would also recommend Elizabeth and James’ Nirvana Dry Shampoo – both the black and white versions smell incredible, and R+Co’s Death Valley or Rene Furterer Naturia’s product are also great options.

The trick to dry shampoo is not to overdo it. I apply a light spray to my roots and make sure to spray at least six inches away from my scalp to avoid build up.  After the product sets, I like to blow-dry though to freshen up and add volume. If you are at the gym or on the road without a dryer – a simple brush through does the trick.  I usually don’t go more than two days without washing my hair. If you’re reaching for your dry shampoo for the third day in a row, it’s time for a rinse.

Here’s to healthy, nourished hair and an irresistibly fresh post-workout ponytail in an instant.
